It’s June time. A very few days are left before schools reopen, and the usual routine of waking up early, going to school, and bringing back homework starts again. But looking at it positively, there is still a chance of spending quality time with the kids. It is not very easy to get the attention of the younger generation in these times of technology. In order to get their attention, you can try to interest them with some projects that you can do together. Here are some Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Projects that you can involve your kids in, and teach them good things as well as know them better:

DIY Marble Paper:

Marble Paper

What do you need:

Good quality chart papers, a water container with a wide mouth, oil paints, a pencil

How to make:

  • Fill water in the container.
  • Put of few drops of oil paints in water and gently play with the paint with a pencil to make designs.
  • Now place the sheet of paper on the surface of the water for about 10 seconds and remove.
  • You can add more colours and repeat to achieve the desired effect.
  • Put the sheet of paper to dry with the immersed side up.

DIY Marble Paper

What you get:

Some great looking paper to cover holiday homework files and folders. After all, the file covers make the first impression, and first impression is the last impression.

What they learn:

The science of density, and the fact that oil and water do not mix and oil floats on water.

DIY Twig Photo Frame

What do you need:

An old photo frame with a great family picture, twigs, glue, scissors, decoration items (optional).

How to make:

  • Decide how you want to place the twigs on the photo frame. You can place them along the width of the frame, from corner to corner, diagonally on the frame, or randomly like a nest.
  • Cut the twigs into piece that can would fit on your photo frame. (If the child is small, assist her/him in cutting)
  • Paste each twig individually on the frame. Cover the whole frame and allow it to get dry.
  • Leave the rest of the decoration part to the child. Allow the child to use her/his imagination. The child can use glitters, paints, sequins, buttons, ribbons, mirrors, etc.

A very beautiful and rustic family photograph

What they learn:

The feelings of love for the family and confidence in themselves that something they made something great and special which the family shows off proudly. Also, a chance to show their creative side.

DIY Drip Paint Flower Pot

What do you need:

An empty flower pot, house paints, varnish, paint brush.

How to make:

  • Apply a base colour on a flower pot (optional) and let it dry.
  • Place the flower pot upside down and make a small puddle of paint on the base of the pot.
  • Tilt the pot so that the paint drips down towards the mouth of the pot.
  • Repeat all along the base of the pot and then put the pot up to dry.
  • Apply a coat of varnish and keep to dry.

What you get:

Beautiful flower pot ideal for indoors and terrace garden

What they learn:

A good way to learn about gravity. Also, the chances of either falling in love with art or gardening.

DIY Key Necklace

What do you need:

An old key that you no longer use, nail paints/craft paints, a chain

  • Paint the key in colours of your choice using nail paints or craft colours. You can use as many colours you like. You can make nail art designs on it as well.
  • Put a chain through the key and wear this cool accessory around your neck. You can even add other small pendants and charms in the same chain to add to the beauty.

What you get:

Beautiful necklace that make the kids look cool. And something that you can borrow from them once in a while.

What they learn:

How to upcycle things.
